Yeaahh, how the fuck do you make that mistake?? Catheters fucking hurt and unless they medically induce a coma or something you'll be awake when they do it so you don't jerk or kick them by being startled awake by the sharp little pain that comes with catheter insertion.
actually, when I had to go in for surgery a few years ago (the only time I've been in the hospital, so it may be different depending on the circumstance) I was so drugged up that they did it when I was asleep. so waking up to them doing it is not improbable.

Not BS. We do this all the time with our blackout drunk patients. Then usually place them in soft restraints to keep them from ripping it out when they finally come around.
