Given the nature of the areas of Arizona that you can make it to on foot from Cali (godforsaken unpopulated desert mostly, with a smattering of hillbillies) not making it to Mexico isn't really much of a consolation.
At least you woke up before Mexico.
Try falling asleep at a party in San Jose and waking up in a casino parking lot in Reno.
