At his apartment this is understandable (and even polite.) Although, it always baffles me why both parties just don't put then entire lid down before they flush. All it takes is one viewing of a video showing the microscopic particles that fly all over the bathroom when the toilet is flushed with the lid up for this make sense to anyone.
