No, plants will make oxygen in the presence of light, but it also depends on what kind of plant it is, some are better than others for carbon fixation (ie. Oxygen production)

Props to the guy for remembering even while utterly wasted that plants produce oxygen. Even if he was a total moron for doing that.

Um, you guys are wrong. CAM and C4 photosynthesis are the only plants that don't produce stop co2 production for an extended period. They do this because the close their stoma off to reduce transpiration. During the time though they go through a period of carbon fixation, making a 4 carbon acid that will be broken down into a 3carbon acid and co2 later

Yep, I'm sure lack of oxygen was his problem... And a potted plant is always the fix for that, I oughta start my own business selling potted plants to paramedics, I could make a mint!

They do, lol. But what I'm saying is, the ones that stop production are CAM and C4. If there is no sunlight, that dosent mean glucose isn't metabolized. Photosynthesis just makes clucose, c6h12o6

Submitted by Anonymous on Nov 17, 09 at 12:41am

At night, when photosynthesis does not occur - no sunlight for energy - respiration does occur, which gives off carbon dioxide just as it does in animals. On balance, though, plants take up much more carbon dioxide in photosynthesis than they give off in respiration. get ur facts staight, idiot

After all, UV limitation is the only reason why lightbulbs were never particularly sufficient for indoor plants prior to the high efficiency halogen bulbs for homes using argon or energy efficient windows

Actually the photosynthetic process is LIGHT dependent and with most places switching over to those energy efficient bulbs, there should be enough UV being emitted to sufficiently mimic sunlight for plants, therefore as long as the bulb's on, there should be O2 production, erhas at a decreased level due to insufficient enzymatic activity
